Palm Sunday Procession
Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday with the traditional Procession of the Palms. Madison churches remember Christ's entry into Jerusalem. The procession follows the map through the streets with palm fronds, following a burro and the cross, symbolizing the journey of Christ. The Procession ends with an ecumenical service.
Madison Episcopal Church of the Advent starts the procession. The first stop is in front of the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center to collect participants from churches not on the route or outside the Historic District. Then on to the Presbyterian, Baptist, Methodist, and Cornerstone churches, finally ending at Calvary Baptist for the ecumenical service.
Afterwards, the Episcopalians will parade onwards to Church of the Advent to celebrate the Eucharist during a special Palm Sunday service (beginning at approximately 10:45 am - 11:00 am).
